Relative Equilibria at Singular Points of the Moment Map

چکیده

We prove a criterion for stability of relative equilibria in symmetric Hamiltonian systems at singular points of the momentum map. This generalizes a theorem of G.W. Patrick. The method of the proof is also useful in studying the bifurcation of relative equilibria.

A method for testing Gμ-stability of relative equilibria in Hamiltonian systems of the form “kinetic + potential energy” is presented. This method extends the Reduced Energy-Momentum Method of Simo et al. to the case of non-free group actions and singular momentum values.
